Monica Reu is the president of the Association for Nonviolent Communication, which she founded in 2007. In 2009, she became the first Romanian trainer certified by the Center for Nonviolent Communication. She is an ANC-accredited trainer and has been organizing and leading NVC workshops since 2004, sharing the method through open courses, practice groups, family camps, schools, and institutions. Her passion is supporting teachers, parents, and couples in bringing this communication model into their everyday lives.
In early 2010 she gave birth to the most transformative personal development program of her life – her daughter, Emma. Later that same year, she launched the “Empathic Education – NVC for Parents” program, driven by her desire to show parents how Nonviolent Communication supports the creation and strengthening of a relationship based on trust, respect, and empathy, and how it can bring more joy and harmony into family life.
A natural extension of this project was the course “Empathic Education in Schools and Kindergartens,” which she has offered in several educational institutions across the country.
She is one of four international trainers who facilitated the International Intensive Training – Greece 2017, organized by the Center for Nonviolent Communication, alongside Jeff Brown, Gina Lawrie, and Robert Krzisnik.
In her individual counseling sessions, she draws on both Nonviolent Communication and her training as a Solution Focus Coach—an approach that supports clients in discovering their inner resources to navigate relational challenges in a constructive and beneficial way.
Over the years, she has contributed to the publication of several influential works in personal development and parenting: she is the translator of Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life (Ponte Publishing); editor of Tears and Tantrums by Aletha Solter (Ponte Publishing); editor of Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn (Multimedia); and editor of Respectful Parents, Respectful Kids by Sura Hart and Victoria Kindle Hodson (Herald).
Together with Totul despre Mame, Monica organized Alfie Kohn’s conferences in Bucharest in 2013 and 2014, and she collaborated with the TV show “Totul despre Mame” on Prima TV.
In recent years, she has focused on individual sessions, mediation, and couples counseling. Together with her husband, trainer Ian Peatey, she leads the six-month program Extraordinary Intimate Relationships.
Monica is also a mentor for NVC facilitators who are in the certification process with the Center for Nonviolent Communication.
