WHY DO PARENTS ARGUE?
I remember I was in the bathroom and went to pull the toilet paper. Shock and horror – Del had put the roll on the wrong way round. The wrong way meaning with the strip of paper hanging down towards the wall, not outwards. I sigh deeply and start fumbling under the roll. Even though I can't, I still try to understand her, and that's why I want to struggle to pull the toilet paper even like this, from the wall side. Maybe it works her way too and we can end the debate. Hmmm. I feel around and manage to pull off a strip. I try to blow my nose with it and fold it so that the paper lands on my nose with the pattern facing out, not towards my nose. I knew full well this meant the strong layer was on the opposite side to the one I needed, but I decided to try it this way to show her it doesn't work. I've been telling her for at least a year that the paper goes facing out, not backwards. (read more)
NON-VIOLENT, DEAR
About Nonviolent Communication
I don't know if you remember that a while ago I wrote about violent communication and crappy communication in a couple and in the relationship with the child. I told you then that there are courses that teach us not to hit, either with our hands or with our mouths. Well, this weekend I took my wife, abandoned our child at my parents' and went to the course sceptical, bored and scared. Scared of leaving our child for the first time. Sceptical and bored because, I admit, I imagined a course like all the courses in multinationals, where I'd learn interesting things, but stiffly wrapped in wooden language and atmosphere. To my amazement, it was the most beautiful and interesting course I have ever attended. It was so relaxing that I didn't even feel the need for a break, because the whole course was like a break – as if I were on a terrace with Monica (the mother of Nonviolent Communication in Romania) and the other course participants.

THE FIRST “LIVING ROOM” NVC COURSE – EPILOGUE
They were four crazy days in which I don't know when I ate, when I slept or when I covered the kilometres between countless points on the map. Thursday: the plane, the airport at a time I couldn't make, pleading with the Prince Consort, the French exam during which my mind was on Monica the whole time, emails with the last details sent in the dead of night. Friday: Little Finger's school, chairs, a drill, the hotel, the supermarket, Little Finger's school again, this time with Monica, a pizza we waited 45 minutes for, an hour of dozing next to Little Finger, Ding Dong, convincing Little Finger to stay with friends so the Prince Consort could attend the course

EMPATHIZING WITH YOU AND OTHERS
I attended last Thursday a Nonviolent Communication course. The theory is about how to identifying your needs and how to give your communication partner the possibility to identify his. We fulfill our needs or we don’t and this is the cause of our positive or negative feelings.
I asked why does my 3 years boy cry when I leave him in the kindergarten and how shall I act to make him understand my needs. Discussing with the trainer I realized the following, my child needs to feel safe and my need is him to be safe and happy. I also realized that my experience in the childhood with the kindergarten was a similar one. I was always crying and afraid that my parents will not come back to pick me up.

WORKSHOP FOR COUPLES: THE TREASURE IN THE MUD
Conflicts in a couple usually start from small things. A slammed door or the remote control left in the wrong place are just two examples that now, as you read these lines, seem so small, but when tiredness builds up they turn into arguments. Unfortunately, unspoken small things pile up and at some point they come out in a rather unpleasant way; on the other hand, if the small things are voiced, there are again small conflicts, which can lead to bigger ones. How can we avoid conflicts? I don't know if there is a miracle solution, but I know that if there is communication, they can turn into lessons.
Nonviolent Communication courses have recently appeared here too; one that UrbanKid.ro attended and can vouch for is the one led by Monica Reu and Ian Peatey.

MONICA REU AND THE LANGUAGE OF GIRAFFES AND JACKALS IN BRAȘOV, AT HEIDI ACADEMY
Last weekend we once again hosted Monica Reu in Brașov with her wonderful Nonviolent Communication course.
In a relaxed atmosphere, both the mums and the dads present learned about the philosophy developed by American psychologist Marshall Rosenberg and how it can be applied in real life at home.
Parents who some time ago would have laughed at the idea of a course for parents, or who had tried all sorts of methods and had run out of solutions for their children's behaviour at home, or who saw their children's actions as attempts at blackmail and manipulation, went home relaxed and calm, thinking they have the most normal children in the world. Grown-ups had revelations that will change their lives.

EMPATHIC EDUCATION
I left the course with much more than I expected. I think everyone takes from life as much joy as they are able to :). Although the situation around me, and especially I myself, didn't suddenly become easier, something did change in the way I evaluate, first of all, my own reactions – in how I “put up with” myself.

MIXED THOUGHTS AFTER THE NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION COURSE
Look what gem I found on the ACNV website dashboard this morning! Feedback from a dad from Cluj after attending Empathic Education. Heartfelt thanks, Mihai Brehar! I've only just discovered it, and it's the most beautiful gift I could have hoped for on 8 March:

ANOTHER EMPATHIC EDUCATION COURSE HAS COME TO AN END AT THE ACADEMY
“I really liked it because I cried,” said a mum at the end of the Empathic Education course held this weekend at the Academy. She liked it a lot because she experienced intense emotions, a sign that what happened during those 3 days touched her heart.
The Nonviolent Communication that Monica Reu promotes in the Empathic Education course is wonderful. Many of those who attend such a course admit it would have been very useful if they had taken it before having children. Anyway, later or not, we say it's great to have opportunities at hand when you're ready to make the most of them.
